Thompson Hine is proud to announce that it earned Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Certification for a fifth consecutive year. Since first achieving Mansfield Certification in 2019, the firm has sustained its commitment to increasing the transparency and accessibility of its advancement processes and to ensuring that all professionals at the firm have a fair and equal opportunity to be considered for leadership roles and activities, a commitment that benefits the firm and its clients.
Data shows that firms that remain committed and accountable to the Mansfield Certification process year-over-year are making substantial progress in creating inclusive talent practices and diversifying their leadership ranks. This is true at Thompson Hine, and the firm continues to take measurable actions to ensure that its processes are – and remain – inclusive. For example, 50% of its Executive Committee members (the firm’s top governing body), one-third of office partners in charge, 25% of practice group leaders and 50% of Lawyer Personnel Committee members identify as attorneys from an underrepresented group.
Mansfield Certification is a year-long, science-backed, data-driven process designed to create a level playing field for all by asking that at least 30% of those considered for leadership roles are members of underrepresented groups and that a firm’s advancement processes are inclusive, equitable and transparent. The structural elements of Diversity Lab’s certification process, including accountability through extensive data collection and frequent firm-specific check-ins, ongoing collaboration through monthly group knowledge-sharing meetings, and the transparency of public certification, are keys to this effort.
Thompson Hine, a participant since 2019, is excited to continue to be part of the Mansfield community and believes that by maintaining a workplace where advancement opportunities are transparent and inclusive for everyone, the firm can better serve its clients and communities. The firm is dedicated to ensuring that all professionals have a fair and equal opportunity to advance into leadership.
Thompson Hine’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion begins at the top. Earlier this year, Tony White became managing partner, one of a handful of black managing partners in the Am Law 200. He follows Deborah Z. Read, who led the firm from 2012-2024 and was one of the first women managing partners.
White stressed the firm’s steadfast commitment to fostering inclusivity within the firm and the legal profession. “Thompson Hine takes great pride in its ongoing achievement of Mansfield Certification, a testament to our firm’s enduring pledge to cultivate a workplace environment that is diverse, equitable and welcoming to all. We strive to be a leader within our profession, encouraging other firms to adopt inclusive talent practices and diversify their leadership ranks.”
