Joining as a partner, Ted Remaklus brings over two decades of trademark expertise alongside Julie Valdes, who comes aboard as an associate. Both attorneys will enhance Thompson Hine’s Intellectual Property practice from their base in the firm’s Cincinnati office.
Remaklus is an accomplished trademark attorney with more than 25 years of experience in trademark prosecution, litigation, and transactions. He has represented clients in federal and state courts throughout the United States and has argued cases before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Federal Circuits. He manages a global trademark portfolio comprising over 7,000 properties, including more than 4,000 foreign properties. His clients span diverse industries, including fashion, retail, sporting goods, and consumer electronics. He often collaborates with foreign law firms and is widely recognized for his experience in managing foreign portfolios and protecting brands worldwide. His expertise has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for Trademark Law, Copyright Law, and Intellectual Property Litigation, among other accolades.
His experience dovetails with Thompson Hine’s client base, especially within the cosmetics and personal care industries, further enhancing the firm’s recent growth into the Los Angeles market. Additionally, Remaklus has significant experience with IP issues involved in corporate transactions. He is particularly skilled in assisting companies that acquire and license brands, and with managing the resulting portfolios.

Valdes specializes in a broad range of IP issues, with a particular emphasis on trademark counseling and litigation. Her skill extends to preparing and prosecuting domestic and international trademark applications, drafting contracts, representing clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and assisting with copyright registrations. Valdes serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati, where she instructs on Media Assets and Law. Valdes is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional in the United States (CIPP/US). Additionally, she is a member of the 2025 WE Lead Class of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce and was honored as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2024.

Remaklus earned his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic University, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Valdes earned her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Puget Sound.
